Future Foundations

From November 2019 to August 2020, I was delighted to be a Young Reporter Ambassador for the BBC, which meant I was a point of contact for individuals to learn more about the BBC. This role combined my love for reporting, workshop facilitation, and inspiring and empowering others.

Aside from participating in the occasional career talk and panel, for the first three weeks of August, I teamed up with Future Foundations on behalf of the BBC Young Reporter Scheme to deliver a weekly session on “Storytelling and Podcasts”.

Future Foundations is an organisation that creates and delivers programmes for young people, inspiring future generations with specialist programmes in summer schools and weekend work. I pride myself on my ability to tell stories on a number of platforms and Future Foundations wanted me to share the art of storytelling, an insight into podcasting, and also hopefully inspire their participants to create podcasts.

Delivering the presentation from my home office/bedroom, I explored all three things on a live streamed webinar to 500 students for an hour, three Thursday mornings in a row. Time went so quickly, I only had time to answer a few questions at the end of the session, but I was blown away by the kindness of the young participants and their curiosity into my work and my passions.

A few stand out quotes I remember were: “she has done so well in her career despite the struggles with her Mum”, and “I now want to know more about podcasting as Vicky Carter was a great speaker and really inspiring”. I was delighted to learn that the participants created over 40 podcasts through the scheme and with Future Foundations, you can listen to them here.
